Motorcyclist dies in freeway crash
POMONA -- A 60-year-old Perris man died Thursday after he crashed his motorcycle on the freeway and was then struck by a truck, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 2:20 p.m. on the 71 Freeway, just north of Pomona Boulevard.
The dead man's name was not released pending positive identification and notification of family members, coroner's officials said.
The motorcyclist was southbound on the freeway at an unknown speed when he lost control of his Kawasaki motorcycle and was thrown into traffic lanes, California Highway Patrol Officer Edmund Zorrilla said.
He was then struck by the rear tires of a Chevy box truck being driven by a 53-year-old man from Mesa, Arizona, Zorrilla added.
The motorcyclist suffered trauma to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, he added.
