Toddler on life-support after falling into pool
WEST VALINDA -- A toddler was on life-support at a children's hospital Sunday after falling into a swimming pool, authorities said.
Officials responded to a report of a baby unconscious and not breathing after falling into a backyard swimming pool about 8:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Sandsprings Drive, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Hiroshi Yokoyama said.
Deputies blocked intersections as the boy, who is about to turn 3-years-old, was rushed to Queen of the Valley Hospital, Yokoyama said.
Later, he was transferred to a children's hospital in Long Beach, where he remained on life-support Sunday, he said.
"The child was able to manipulate the gate to the pool area, and unfortunately, he fell in," the lieutenant said.
The toddler's family members discovered him floating in the water and called 9-1-1, Yokoyama said.
The incident did not appear to involve any criminal activity, he added.
"It appears to be an accident," he said. "A very tragic accident."

There are wireless devices out there that will monitor your children around a pool and sound an alarm if they should fall into the pool. Google www.autotether.com to get more info.
this mother was know to leave her children unattended all the older teenagers know her and she never super vised the children she was always taking off with different guys allday
It's always a tragedy when a child drowns. I'm the pool operator at our local YMCA. I teach and preach safety and all the lifeguards know I'm a "letter-of-the-law" kind of guy when it comes to safety. There is no room for error. Teach you child to swim early. I have heard and seen experts who say not to teach children under the age of 3-4 not to swim because they cannot handle the stress. It's just better to go with them and have fun, rather than a stressful swimming session.
If you do have a safety fence, be sure it's locked and there's an alarm on it as well. Layers of protection. Once child drowning is one too many.
