An Army psychiatrist opened fire Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas, killing at least 11 people and wounding 31 others before being shot to death, military officials said.
NBC News' Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. A defense official told NBC News that Hasan arrived at Fort Hood in July for his first assignment after completing his psychiatry residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, followed by a course in disaster and preventive psychiatry.
Hasan, who was 39 or 40, was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq on Nov. 28, officials said. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, said military officials had told her that Hasan was "pretty upset" about his deployment orders.

Pretty sure that's not a mugshot, the guy's on life support.
Frank, every time you write a blog post or a column, you get something criminally inaccurate.
As the commenter above stated, this is not Hasan's mug shot. The man hasn't been processed yet...he was taken directly to the hospital and placed on life support.
How could a guy who has a crime blog make such a blatant rhetorical error when writing about crime ?
Get a clue, Frank, get a clue.
For the record, in the newspaper business we call all photos like the one above "mug shots." What I wrote wasn't meant to imply that somehow the cops took this photo of Hassan after the shooting.
I was in the newspaper business - and maybe someone in the newsroom used such causal language, but printed as a headline?
Purposefully misleading.
Re-read your guidelines. A mugshot implies that the man was arrested, charged and booked. That's why I clicked on the link.
Seriously, why the headline? This picture (which you have failed to attribute) is all over the web.
No one ever refers to "All photos" as mug shots, in writing, unless it's "Creative writing".
I studied Journalism in high school and college.
