Man struck in head with handgun during robbery attempt

ARCADIA — A would-be robber struck a man on the head Wednesday during a failed heist in Arcadia, police said.
The crime occurred shortly before 2 p.m. in an alley behind the 1300 block of South Golden West Avenue, Arcadia police Sgt. Stephen Fallavollita said.
The victim, a 57-year-old man, was walking when he was approached by a white man wearing a dark-colored hooded parka and carrying a revolver, the sergeant said.
The robber demanded the man’s wallet, he said, and the two became involved in a brief fight.
The victim was struck on the head with the handgun but did not wish to be taken to the hospital, Fallavollita said.
The gunman was last seen fleeing the area on foot, he said.
