SOUTH PASADENA – For the third time in less than two years, sewage oozed out of a manhole cover at a South Pasadena intersection, authorities said.

The leak was first reported shortly before 6 p.m. at Fair Oaks Avenue and State Street, South Pasadena police Cpl. Matt Petersen said.

Fire and city officials worked to fix the problem late Thursday, he said. It was unclear how much sewage had spilled, but the corporal described the flow as a “pretty steady stream.”

Similar spills have occurred twice at the same intersection in the past year and half, Petersen said.

In the other spills, thousands of gallons of sewage were leaked, forcing the closure of beaches in the Long Beach area when the sewage made it to storm drains.

In March, a similar spill released about 18,000 gallons of sewage.
