Train strikes vehicle in Industry... again
INDUSTRY -- No one was injured Friday when a freight train crashed into a big rig, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 5:45 p.m. on Fairway Drive at Walnut Drive North, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said.
The big rig with a trailer came to a stopped in the southbound No. 2 lane of Fairway Drive prior to the crash, with the trailer partially blocking the railroad tracks, Lt. Steven Katz said.
A westbound Union Pacific freight train passed by at about 30 mph, striking the rear portion of the trailer, the lieutenant said.
The truck sustained moderate damage and the train sustained only minor scratches, he added.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by deputies from the sheriff's Industry Station.
A similar crash was reported Thursday just over a thousand feet to the north at Fairway Drive and Valley Boulevard.
A car that was stopped on the tracks just before 10 a.m. was struck by a passing Union Pacific freight train, sheriff's Sgt. Kevin Walk said.
The driver of the car was hospitalized with minor injuries and released.
In January, a freight train clipped a truck at the same intersection, resulting in no injuries.
