6-year-old boy fatally shot in Azusa
AZUSA -- A call that started with officers spotting a mother running down the street with a bleeding little boy in her arms ended in tragedy Friday after the 6-year-old died at a nearby hospital.
An officer heard what sounded like a gunshot shortly before 4 p.m. and found the boy's mother walking down the 400 block of South Azusa Avenue, Azusa police Lt. Mike Bertelsen said.
The mother reported that she thought a toy had exploded and injured her son, the lieutenant said.
When police looked into the matter, they ruled out that the boy was injured by an exploding toy, Bertelsen said.
"We determined the boy was shot," he said.
Police said the shooting apparently occurred outside a home near where the mother was found walking with the wounded boy.
Paramedics rushed the boy to a local hospital within 20 minutes of the initial call for help, but he was pronounced dead there a short time later, Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Fred Stowers said.
Police arrested three people, but did not release their names or descriptions, citing an ongoing investigation.
No charges were expected against the mother, who Bertelsen said apparently did not witness the shooting.
Bertelsen declined to say where on his body the boy was shot, whether a gun was recovered or how police believe the shooting took place.
"All we can say is we have three in custody and we can't tell you their level of involvement," Bertelsen said.
Detectives continued interviewing witnesses and searching the scene for clues late Friday.

they were not mexican cholos. they have no gang affiliation whatsoever. learn the facts before you profile. two of those people were innocent for your information. and its nt only the boys family who is devastated. us friends and family of the arrested people are devastated as well not only for the boys family but also for our friends. and you dont know that it was intentional. go do some readin and learn a thing or two
first of all they shouldnt have a loaded gun anyways,and how are they innocent the only thing innocent in this picture is the kid who lost his life way to soon.
don't try to make us feel bad for this trash of society, they are where they belong and where they should of been a long time ago before they had cause this fatal tragedy to a inocent little person who his only sin was to live by the house of this animals no one on their 5 sence would of done this even by accident how come they didnt shoot them selves.

My boss knows the family. He went to the funeral. Apparantley, it is a classic case of people PLAYING WITH GUNS/ WEAPONS. Pure stupidity took this kids life.
When the bullet exited the front of his chest it traveled through the hand held remote, causing it to shatter/ burst. This is what the mother saw, and this is why she thought his wounds were the result of an exploding toy.
HOW AND WHY HE WAS SHOT:
What I heard is this: These two MEN (yes, men NOT boys) were PLAYING with guns. They are 21, and 20 years old. I guess they had somehow gotten ahold of this gun, and were playing with it: aiming it, using the scope to zoom in on things, etc. Well, one of the idiots sees a little boy playing across the street in his driveway. He decided to take aim at the boy using the rifles scope. Apparantley, he did not know much, OR ANYTHING about guns or gun safety, and is claiming he didn't know it was loaded. He aimed, zoomed in, and pulled the trigger. But, the gun WAS loaded. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about guns, knows you NEVER aim it at someone, EVEN IF IT'S EMPTY- unless you intend to use it. Period. I think this is a tragic mistake that DEFINITELY could have been prevented had at least ONE of the 2 imbiciles responsible had at least a fraction of sense. I would feel bad for them if they were just dumb kids, but COME ON, they're in their 20's playing with deadly weapons. The only other tragedy is that they didn't kill themselves and delete such stupidity from being reproduced someday in the gene pool. They deserve the maximum penalty, if for nothing else, sheer idiocy. I feel so bad for this family who has lost their child over something that should be basic common sense to any half- wit, let alone the common person.

I guess the little boy was playing with a remote controlled car in his driveway as his mother was supervising. Suddenly, the handheld controller, which was up against the boys chest "exploded." The mother obviously shocked by this (not realizing he had been shot) grabbed the boy in her arms and became frantic, running up the street when a policeman spotted her. I agree with JM......UNBELIEVABLE.....stupid people should be locked up and not allowed to reproduce!!!! Guns don't kill people stupid people kill people. OBVIOUSLY! This innocent boy paid a tragic price for stupid people, not just 1 but 2 stupid people!! Oh and let’s not forget we have to pay for their up keep for the next 60 years or so. The money we will spend on their up keep will be way more than what it would have cost to send this little boy for his PHD in the field of his choice at the best schools America had to offer!!!! It's a shame when a child can't even play in his yard with his toys with the safety of his Mom because stupid people are everywhere!
