WALNUT -- A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed by a motorist Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Mauricio Vigo of Walnut died at a hospital shortly after the crash, Los Angeles County coroner's officials said.
He was riding a scooter downhill turning from Wesleyan Avenue onto Temple Avenue around 3:40 p.m. when he collided with a 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL450 SUV being driven by a 49-year-old man, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Mike Browne said.
The driver was traveling west on Temple Avenue at the time of the collision, he added.
The boy was flown by helicopter to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles where he died, officials said.
The driver was not cited at the scene, Browne said, but the collision remained under investigation.
