Sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint planned in El Monte

EL MONTE — Police are planning a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint next week, authorities said.
The checkpoint will be held April 3 at an undisclosed time and place in El Monte, El Monte police Cpl. Glen Eugenio said in a written statement.
“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired driver,” the statement said.
The upcoming checkpoint, “is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as insuring drivers have a valid driver’s license,” police said.
Members of the public are encouraged to call 911 if they see an impaired driver, Eugenio added.
Funding for the checkpoint is being provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

  1. I don’t understand why this has to be published. I mean, now the criminals know which road to avoid.

  2. 1. Cops legally have to report ahead of time when they plan to do a checkpoint. It’s a 4th ammendment issue.

    2. Like in this posting, the cops usually only say the date, and sometimes time, of the checkpoint. The specific road is not named.
