Women held captive during West Covina home-invasion robbery
WEST COVINA -- Two women were held captive in their West Covina home during a home invasion robbery, police said Thursday.
The crime was reported about 2 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 2700 block of E. Miranda Street, West Covina police said in a written statement.
An 82-year-old woman who suffers from dementia and vision problems answered a knock at the door and found two men, West Covina police Lt. Marty Sevilla said. One of them was armed with a handgun, and the other carried a collapsible, police-style baton.
The men ordered to elderly woman to sit down and tied up a 52-year-old woman who was also inside the home, the lieutenant said.
One robber ransacked the home while the other held the women captive, he added.
Once the robbers left, the younger woman was able to untie herself, according the the police statement. Neither woman was injured in the incident.
Police described the robbers as two Latino man in their mid- to late-20s, wearing beanie caps, dark sunglasses, button-down flannel shirts and tan pants.
No description of a getaway car was available late Thursday, though Sevilla said police were scouring area surveillance cameras in hopes of finding an image of the robbers.
