Duarte elementary school teacher held on child sex charges

Can’t find him on megan’s law registry, but looks like he was arrested in April and then again this week. Not sure if he was teaching between then and now.

This from KCBS/KCAL:

Duarte elementary school teacher faces charges of sexually abusing seven female students over more than a decade.

Wade Bughman, 41, is a sixth-grade teacher at Beardslee Elementary School. Bughman was charged last week in a felony complaint for an arrest warrant, according to the District Attorney’s Office. He is expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon in Pasadena, where prosecutors will recommend that bail be set at $2.1 million.

Bughman was arrested Thursday morning.

Bughman was charged with four counts each of continuous sexual abuse and lewd act upon a child, along with one count each of oral copulation of a person under 14, forcible rape and sexual penetration using a foreign object. The alleged abuse took place between August 1997 and April of this year.

According to prosecutors, all of the victims were under age 14 at the time, and the youngest was a second-grader. All were students at Beardslee Elementary, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

  1. The arrest in April is party of the nightmare that included his arrest last weekend in Apple Valley at his parents home.

He has been on administrative leave since then due to the allegations of force and sexual penetration that triggered the arrest in April. No court date ever came about as a result of that arrest, rather deeper investigation and the discovery of additional alleged victims that triggered the most recent arrest and complete criminal charges.

As a side note I’m just sick over this whole thing. If true I truly feel for the victims. If not true, and the charges are a result of a McMartin style witch hunt and botched investigation then I truly feel for Wade who’s life will have been ruined and his family put through a horrendous nightmare. (I know the family as they are neighbors).

  2. It is bad enough when an educator violates one innocent child. But when multiple children are affected over an extended period of time that is absolutely appalling! How could this have gone on for so long? How this guy was even hired in the first place is simply amazing. Arent school districts required to do background checks?

  3. School Districts do not hire any teacher with a criminal record. Wade’s record was very clean. I have known him so over 10 years, and I can not rap my mind into believing all this allegations. I do feel for the kids as Frazgo commented, but I also know the family. They are going through a very difficult time. As to what I know, all the allegations are hearsay and there is no concrete evidence. I hope his name is clear soon. I know him as a father, a husband, and a teacher… unless there is absolutely “without a reasonable doubt” evidence, to me he is innocent.
