Failed robbery reported at Santa Fe Springs medical marijuana dispensary, shots fired

SANTA FE SPRINGS — Two men stole a security guards gun and fired shots late Tuesday in a failed robbery at a Santa Fe Springs medical marijuana dispensary, authorities said.
The incident took place about 10:45 p.m. at a medical marijuana dispensary in the 9800 block of Alburtis Avenue, Whittier police officials said in a written statement.
“Two male suspects posed as customers and when admitted inside the dispensary, robbed the uniformed security guard of his pistol,” according to the police statement. “Both suspects fought the security guard while inside the location.”
Once in the business, the robbers, which police described only as two black men, were locked inside, Whittier police Officer Mike Dekowski said.
One of the would-be robbers fired a shot into a metal security door in an unsuccessful attempt to get it to open, police said.
“Both suspects threatened the security guard and forced him to unlock the steel security door,” according to the police statement.
The robbers fled with only the security guard’s .45-caliber pistol, Dekowski said. No cash or marijuana was stolen.
The failed robbers fired several shots into the floor and security door of the dispensary as they left, Dekowski said.
“Amazingly, no one was injured as a result of the suspects actions,” according to the police statement.
