WEST COVINA — A man died late Saturday in a solo-car crash in West Covina, authorities said.
Erick Alberto Perez, 22, died at the scene of the crash, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Investigator Jim Blacklock said. His city of residency was not clear.
The crash was reported about 9:38 p.m. on Amar Road near Shadow Oak Drive, West Covina police Lt. Marty Sevilla said in a written statement.
Perez was eastbound on Amar in his Honda sedan, passing traffic, just prior to the crash, the lieutenant said.
“He made an unsafe lane change, cutting off another motorist,” Sevilla said. “He then hit the center median, spun out of control and struck a light pole in the center median.”
There were no passengers in the Honda, he added.
The investigation into the crash continued Saturday, he said.
