AZUSA - Police arrested a gang member Sunday in Azusa who is wanted on suspicion of crimes including assault with a deadly weapon and torture in Colton, authorities said.
Dennis Ayon, 30, of Azusa was being held in lieu of $150,000 bail, Azusa police Sgt. Jerry Arnold said in a written statement.
Officers were walking through an apartment complex in the 300 block of North Cerritos Avenue about 12:50 p.m. when they spotted Ayon, Arnold said.
"They knew Ayon was wanted for an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in the City of Colton," he said. "He was arrested without incident."
The sergeant described Ayon as a "documented gang member from Azusa with a lengthy criminal history."
The alleged assault was against the mother of Ayon's child and did not involve a firearm, Azusa police said.
Officials issued a warrant for Ayon's arrest following a July 21 incident in the 1000 block of S. Santo Antonio Drive in Colton, Colton police Sgt. Kyle Kershner said.
The alleged charges include assault with a deadly weapon, torture, spousal abuse and residential burglary, he said.
Further details regarding the Colton incident were not available Sunday.
According to sheriff's booking records, Ayon was due for arraignment Monday in West Covina Superior Court.
