Police kill heavily armed, bullet proof vest-clad suspect in Ontario
As you'll read below, Ontario police ultimately shot and killed a Tec-9-toting, bullet proof vest wearing suspect who allegely raised a weapon toward police. The text below was taken from Ontario Police Department press release:
On Wednesday, September 01, 2010 at approximately 9:21 A.M. hours, Ontario Police Officers responded to a call of a man with a gun occurring at a residence in the 1000 block of East Sixth Street, Ontario.
Upon arrival, Officers surrounded the multi-unit building where the armed man was believed to be holding his girlfriend at gunpoint. As officers were attempting to make verbal contact with the female victim, believed to be the suspect's girlfriend, the suspect was seen fleeing in a white Honda Accord from a rear attached garage.
At the same time, the police department armored assault vehicle was arriving to the scene and stopped the suspect from driving away. The suspect actually collided with the front end of the assault vehicle. The assault vehicle was used to push the suspect vehicle into an adjoining garage, pinning the suspect vehicle in the garage, thus preventing him from escaping.
As this occurred, the suspect pointed an assault pistol at the officers while he attempted to ram the assault vehicle. Fearing for their safety, two of the officers were forced to fire their weapons at the suspect striking him in the upper body.
The suspect refused to submit to arrest as officers attempted verbal negotiations with him. A short time later, the suspect was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody without further incident. He was transported, via ground ambulance, to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The suspect was found to be in possession of a loaded Tec-9 assault pistol and was wearing a bullet proof vest.
The deceased suspect is identified as 37 year old Jason Marcellus Martin of Desert Hot Springs. Martin had been recently released from prison and was on parole for a prior domestic violence conviction. Martin is a gang member out of Riverside County who has a lengthy criminal history that includes resisting arrest, domestic violence, robbery, carjacking, hit and run, DUI and felony assault on a peace officer.
The two officers involved in the shooting will only be identified as a 15 year veteran assigned to the patrol division who holds the rank of Officer. The second is an 8 year veteran also assigned to the patrol division and holds the rank of Corporal.

Another good reason to abolish parole and make people like this serve their full terms.
Great job,Ontario P.D.They did the right thing.These career criminals need to be taken out in order to protect the law abiding people.Our liberal judges are giving out too lenient of prison sentences,making incarceration a revolving door.
just for the record.Some people face serious struggles from birth.Poverty, family history of violence and addiction, mental illness poor schooling(poor neighborhood's)the list goes on and on.This was not the animal that it shows in his criminal file.He made poor choices,many of his own free will.As a teen he was light hearted charismatic and engaging.The right thing was not done here, the right thing has not been done for a very long time.The system that is set in place makes it nearly impossible to achieve financial or emotional stability.If you commit a crime in your youth it follows you forever.After you are kicked out of youth authority or prison(with no education or therapy,life or job skills)you are left with a record that wont allow you to find a decent paying job and with the stigma attached to mistake making in your youth.Often the only place that welcomes you back is the streets and that lifestyle.We give guns to police officers with very little life experience with very little training at a very young age...Non lethal weapons should be used much more often and so should actual rehabilitation.I make no excuses for those who live and then die by the streets.Our brown and black brothers and sisters know they are a targeted by police and each other on a daily basis and they know what the consequences are of the life they lead.The right thing was not done here.There are often other options but we often chose the most radical and extreme.A life was lost.This was someone son,brother friend and father.It's another horrible story reflective of our times.America is looking more Godless ,hopeless and ruthless to me.

I agree with "Family Member" and "Kim Miller"! It's ignorance that comes out of you idiots that have nothing good to say. Jason was a human being who may have made choices that didn't seem to be the right ones. He was a father, brother, son and friend to many people. He was a man you could count on when you needed help and put smiles on many faces. He didn't have a heart of ice!! For those of you, who have nerve to praise this death as Justice, you have no clue of what is going on in the world. You idiots need to be educated in what society and this justice system does to people who have a disadvantage. Its "society" that labels the destiny of people who grow up in the "neighborhood", it says if you are a minority and you are a member of a broken family, you are gonna be a criminal or work at McDonalds. Its a double struggle for to achieve success when society says your a "thug". It's people like you who must have never experienced discrimination in its most evil form. Jason had a loving heart and worked hard to over come his circumstances. But as "Kim Miller" stated the past always follows them even when they try to change. So, this justice system failed him! It has failed many. Its too bad news articles like this doesn't represent the whole truth. God didn't put us on earth to judge and even Jesus loved the criminals, so before you place your finger on the keyboard to type some nonsense on this, be sure you are prepared to answer to God when your day comes!

I knew Marcellus..this stuns me!...I am confused...what has happened here does not even remotely reflect the man I knew...I am glad that God sorts these things out...I will miss him...along with many friends where he lived.

Jason was one of the best individuals I have ever met, Rest In Peace Jason.
Jason, made some bad mistakes in his life, but we all have. At this point lets try to remember some of the good things he did. He was a medic in the Army (not an easy job to come by, you have to be smart and able to work under presure), I saw him at work several times, treating patients and making quick work of it too. This man served our country proudly, lets not forget about that!
I am praying for the family of my friend Jason. I have been greatly troubled by OPD's decision to open fire on Jason. I AM SAD!!!

I would like to know these "officer's" records. Why don't they tell us that in this "story"?. At the end of the article it says that the OPD won't identify them exept for their division and years of service. I WONDER WHY? And one of them is a 15 year veteran and still only has the rank of "officer"?
