Covina police checkpoint results

COVINA — A pre-Super Bowl police checkpoint resulted in seven arrests, 28 vehicle impounds and 24 tickets late Saturday, but turned up no impaired drivers, authorities said.
A total of 1,600 cars were screened through the checkpoint, which was held between 6 p.m. and midnight in the southbound lanes of the 500 block of Azusa Avenue, Covina police Lt. David Povero said.
Seven people were arrested for driving with a suspended license and other offenses, though none of the arrests were for driving under the influence, the lieutenant said.
Police also issued 24 tickets to unlicensed drivers and impounded 28 cars for various violations, Povero said.
The checkpoint was funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
