BASSETT — A man who was being sought by officials on suspicion of domestic violence was stabbed and beaten Saturday by the brother and mother of the woman he allegedly assaulted the day before, authorities said.

Roger Sapien, 27, of Bassett was booked on suspicion of domestic violence after being treated for his injuries at a hospital, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

Sgt. Nabeel Mitri said deputies responded to reports of an attack about 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of South Collwood Avenue but found no victim.

Officials at a Baldwin Park hospital notified sheriff’s deputies a short time later that a man who had been beaten and stabbed had arrived at the emergency room, he said.

The initial investigation indicated that Sapien, who was being sought on suspicion of domestic violence against his girlfriend Friday in Industry, showed up at a birthday party being held for their child, sergeant said.

Sapien was confronted by his girlfriend’s brother and mother, he said. The brother allegedly stabbed him in the head and buttocks, while the mother is accused of hitting him over the head with an unknown metal object.

Deputies continued seeking Sapien’s alleged attackers Sunday.

According to sheriff’s booking records, Sapien was being held without bail at the sheriff’s Industry Station.  He was due for arraignment Tuesday in El Monte Superior Court.
