COVINA - Two would-be robbers slashed a man in the hand in a failed attempt to steal his laptop computer early Friday, authorities said.
The crime took place about 2:40 a.m. in the 19700 block of West Arrow Highway, in an unincorporated county area near Covina, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Brett Lisle said.
A man was sitting in a parked car when two men described only as Latino approached, the sergeant said.
One of the crooks demanded a laptop computer from the man, while the other attempted to grab it and pull it away from him, Lisle said.
During the scuffle, "One of them slashed (the victim) with an unknown object," he said. He suffered a minor gash to his hand.
The man managed to hang on to his computer, Lisle said, and the failed robbers fled empty-handed in a Ford vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's San Dimas Station.
