Employee killed in fall from roof at Santa Fe Springs company

SANTA FE SPRINGS — A 53-year-old employee at a valve manufacturing company died Tuesday after falling through a skylight, authorities said Wednesday.
His name was not released pending notification of family members, coroner’s officials said.
The incident took place about 2:35 p.m. at the Southern California Valve Co., 13903 Maryton Ave., Whittier police officials said in a written statement.
“According to witness statements, an employee was on the roof of the business when he fell through a skylight, descending nearly 30 feet,” the police statement said.
The worker suffered major head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
“The cause of the fall is still under investigation, however at this point it appears accidental,” according to the statement.
he worker was alone on the roof at the time of the fall, Whittier police Officer Mike Dekowski said. It was unclear what exactly he was doing when he fell.
Representatives of Southern California Valve Co. declined to comment via telephone Wednesday.
