Montebello bank robbery suspect jailed

MONTEBELLO -- Police arrested a man Thursday on suspicion of trying to rob a bank branch -- the very some one he successfully robbed the day before, authorities said.
Officials received 9-1-1 calls and a robbery alarm activation about 1:15 p.m. from Banco Popular, 2133 W. Beverly Blvd., Montebello police Lt. Brad Keller said in a written statement.
"The 9-1-1 caller from within the bank told the Montebello Dispatch Center that a male black had just attempted to rob the bank and fled out the east door," Keller said.
He handed a teller a note demanding cash before fleeing empty-handed, Lt. Andy Vuncanon said.
Officers searched the area for and arrested the suspect as he was walking two blocks south of the bank, police said.
Police determined that Thursday's would-be robber is the same man who successfully robbed the bank of $400 Wednesday, Vuncanon said.
In that case, he entered the same bank about 11:30 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money.
The suspect's name was not immediately available pending confirmation of his identity and booking, police said.
