Police plan checkpoints Friday in Whittier, Alhambra

WHITTIER -- Police are planning to hold a checkpoint Friday, authorities said.
Officers will screen motorists looking for drunken or unlicensed drivers from 7 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday at Whittier Boulevard and Redman Avenue, just west of Norwalk Boulevard, Whittier police officials said in a written statement.
In addition to seeking intoxicated drivers, police said, officers will also be on the lookout for those driving without licenses, or with suspended or revoked licenses.
"Any motorist found driving without a valid license may have their vehicle impounded for 30 days and be issued a citation," according to the police statement.
Funding for the checkpoint is being provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

ALHAMBRA -- Police have announced plans to hold a checkpoint Friday.
The checkpoint will take place from 6:30 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location within Alhambra, Alhambra police officials said in a written statement.
The primary goal of the checkpoint will be to find intoxicated drivers and raise awareness about the consequences of driving under the influence, officials said, however officers will also look for drivers without valid licenses.
"During the past three years, there have been 29 alcohol-related traffic collisions in the City of Alhambra, resulting in one fatality and 42 people injured," according to the police statement.
Funding for the checkpoint is being provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
