California Supreme Court won't review case against woman who killed family in Pico Rivera

LOS ANGELES -- The California Supreme Court Wednesday declined to review the case of a then-16-year-old girl who helped her boyfriend slaughter four members of her adopted family in their Pico Rivera home in 2000.
The court denied a petition to review the case of Monica Diaz, convicted of murdering Richard Flores, 42, Richard Flores Jr., 17, Sylvia Flores, 13, and Matthew Flores, 10.
They were fatally stabbed inside their home on Marjorie Street in Pico Rivera. Sylvia Flores, mother to the young victims and wife to Richard Flores, survived the attack.
She is serving 100 years to life in prison in connection with the slayings. Her then-17-year-old boyfriend, Michael Naranjo, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his part in the killings.
Diaz was initially sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole as well, but her sentenced was reduced to four 25-year to life sentences in 2009 after an appellate court in 2005 threw out her conviction for the attempted murder of Sylvia Flores.
