Police look into "suspicious package" in Monrovia

MONROVIA -- A tool box abandoned in a parking lot and reported as a "suspicious package" prompted the closure of a portion of Myrtle Avenue Saturday, officials said.
Police received reports about 5 p.m. of a plastic tool box left unattended in a parking lot in the 800 block of S. Myrtle Avenue, Monrovia police Lt. Michael Lee said. Nearby witnesses did not recall seeing any workers in the area.
As a precaution, police cordoned off the area around the package and called for assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad, the lieutenant said.
Bomb squad members used a robot to blow the lock off the tool box shortly after 6 p.m., revealing nothing dangerous inside, police said.
