NORWALK -- The trial for a then-29-year-old P.E. teacher accused of carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student has been postponed, officials said.
Trial for Jesse Serrato was scheduled to begin Tuesday in Norwalk Superior Court, however it was pushed back to October 20, court officials said. He's accused of four counts of lewd conduct on a child.
Serrato was arrested in March on suspicion of carrying on a months-long relationship with the teenage pupil. He is free on bail pending trial.
In addition to working as a P.E. teacher at East Whittier Middle School, Serrato was also a part-time football coach at La Serna High School, officials said.
He was placed on administrative leave from his teaching position, following his arrest, and fired from his part-time coaching job.
He was in his fourth year with the East Whittier City School District, he had coached at La Serna for three years and he has coached at Pioneer High School as long ago as 2002.
