SOUTH WHITTIER -- Five children are recovering from injuries ranging from minor to major after the minivan they were riding in collided with a pickup truck Sunday, authorities said.
Two of the five children, who ranged in age from 1 to 9, were thrown from the minivan in the crash, officials said.
The crash took place about 7:10 p.m. Sunday on Telegraph Road and Victoria Avenue, in the unincorporated county area known as South Whittier, California Highway Patrol Officer Charles Quijada said.
A 29-year-old Whittier woman made a turn from eastbound Telegraph Road to Victoria Avenue when her minivan was struck by a pickup truck being driven westbound on Telegraph Road by an 18-year-old man, officials said.
Two of the young children were thrown from the minivan following the impact, Quijada said. It was not clear Tuesday if they had been wearing seatbelts.
Three other children in the minivan also suffered injuries, officials said, though none were believed to be life threatening.
The driver of the minivan was unhurt, and the driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the crash was being investigated by the Santa Fe Springs office of the CHP.
