Masked men carry out takeover robbery at Montebello supermarket
MONTEBELLO -- Two masked men -- one of the wearing a Halloween mask -- carried out a takeover robbery at a supermarket Saturday, police said.
The crime was reported about 6:45 a.m. at Super A Foods, 2924 West Beverly Blvd., Montebello police Lt. Rich Meadows said.
One of the robbers carried a shotgun and wore a light blue or green ski mask, he said. The other wore a ghostly mask like the one popularized in the 1996 slasher film "Scream."
"They pulled up to the front of the business when they were opening," Meadows said.
When employees opened the front doors of the business, the robbers stormed in and ordered about 10 employees inside to raise their hands, police said. They then helped themselves to four cash register drawers and fled with about $900.
"They were in and out very quick," Meadows said. No injuries were reported.
Police described the robbers as male, about 5 feet 7 inches and of thin build. One wore a black jacket or sweat shirt and brown shorts, along with the ski mask, while the robber wearing the Scream mask was dressed in all black.
They were last seen fleeing north on Garfield Avenue in a light blue 1990 Honda Accord, Meadows said.
