Montebello man sentenced for fatal hit-and-run

MONTBELLO -- A Montebello man received a 9-year prison sentence Friday for fatally running over an elderly Montebello woman and her dog with his pickup truck, then fleeing the scene, court officials said.
David Loera, 38, faced a maximum sentence of 12 years behind bars after being convicted of the Oct. 5, 2009 crash that killed 84-year-old Norma Lambo and her dog Barney as they crossed the street at Jefferson Avenue and Alfred Court. He received his sentence from Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen Marcus.
He was convicted in August of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit-and run.
After striking Lambo, a passenger exited the truck and removed her walker from the bumper before the truck, driven by Loera, sped away, authorities said. The passenger has not been identified.
Lambo was a longtime Montebello resident who co-founded the city's "Ashiya Sister Cities" program.
Montebello police arrested Loera three days after the crash after finding his truck being repaired at a local auto body shop.

Sad to hear the news Dave. May god bless you.Even though this may seem like a dark period in your life make it a positive time and come out a better man than when you entered prison for you your kids and your family. Love you bro and you will be in my prayers. To the Lambo family may god bless you as well. cherish the memories of the great woman many people have said she was.
