Officials identify woman killed in Whittier crash
WHITTIER -- Authorities Thursday released the name of a 20-year-old Whittier woman killed in a three-car crash earlier this week.
Lauren Elizabeth Ontiveros died shortly after the 8:24 p.m. crash in the 9200 block of Greenleaf Avenue, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter said.
Ontiveros was driving her 1995 Honda Accord east on Mulberry Drive when a work van turned left in front of her from westbound Mulberry Drive to Greenleaf Avenue, Whittier police Officer Brad White said.
She was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where she died a short time later, officials said.
Following the initial crash, the vehicles collided with an SUV being driven by a Pico Rivera man in his 20s alongside the Honda, White said. The SUV driver was treated for complaints of back pain.
The cause of the crash was initially believed to be a failure to yield on the part of the van driver, White said, though the investigation was ongoing. Ontiveros was not believed to be wearing a seat belt.
The van involved in the crash was a fleet vehicle owned by a company called "Ecolab," police said. The driver, an Anaheim man in his 60s, was not injured.
No citations or arrests were made as of Thursday.

Lauren was a co-worker and a friend that i will miss very much. All of our thoughts and prayers are with her family. It is hard to go to work without her there.
