Serial bank robbery suspect arrested in Pomona

POMONA -- Police arrested a serial bank robbery suspect Friday after a heist at a Garey Avenue bank, authorities said.
Michael Williams, 56, was booked on suspicion of bank robbery, according to Pomona police and county booking records. He posted $100,000 bail and was released from jail about three hours after his 12:40 a.m. arrest.
He's also suspected in an October bank robbery in Ontario, and a September robbery at a bank branch in Chino, police and FBI officials said.
Pomona police responded to a report of a robbery about 11:45 a.m. at the Citizens Business Bank, 1095 N. Garey Ave., Pomona police Sgt. Duane Leonard said in a written statement. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect and his car.
Pomona police detectives happened to be in the area when employees reported a man had just robbed the bank by passing a note demanding cash, Leonard said.
"Within minutes, a suspect and vehicle matching the description was located in the area of Garey and Orange Grove (avenues)," he said.
After pulling over the 1989 Buick LeSabre and detaining the driver, Williams, and a passenger, "The stolen loot was found on the front seat of the vehicle along with the demand note."
Williams was identified as the "primary suspect" and arrested, Leonard said. Police did not identify the passenger.
"Representatives of the FBI responded to assist with the investigation and indicated that this suspect had committed bank robberies in other jurisdictions," Leonard said. "He was labeled 'The Know It All Bandit.'"
He's suspected in a an Oct. 8 robbery at the U.S. Bank, 333. N. Euclid Ave. in Ontario, as well as a Sept. 14 robbery at the Bank of America, 12747 Central Ave. in Chino, according to the FBI.
It was not clear Saturday how the serial bandit earned the moniker.
The case has been turned over to the FBI for prosecution.
