Twins remain hospitalized after being struck by car while en route to school in unincorporated Covina

COVINA — Twin 14-year-old sisters struck by a car and seriously injured as they walked to school early Monday have undergone surgery and remained hospitalized Tuesday, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 6:40 a.m. at on Lark Ellen Avenue and Tudor Street, as the sisters, believed to be Gladstone High School students, were one their way to school, California Highway Patrol officials said.
One of the sisters remained hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday, while the other was listed in stable condition, Sgt. Carl Gafford said.
The girls were walking in a crosswalk when they were struck, officials said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Gafford said. The driver of the Honda Civic that struck the girls, a woman in her 30s, was not believed to be impaired and she remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
