Man suspected of stealing copper from Santa Fe Springs construction company

SANTA FE SPRINGS –
Police jailed a Whittier man Friday on suspicion of causing more than $13,000
worth of damage while stealing copper wiring from a construction company.

William Gonzalez, 27,
was booked on suspicion of grand theft and vandalism, Whittier police said
Saturday in a written statement.

Officers went to Kiewit
Inc., 10740 Shoemaker Ave., about 4 a.m. after a burglar alarm went off,
officials said.

They found Gonzalez in
the back yard of the business, according to the police statement. “The suspect
had burglary tools and copper wire from the business in his possession.”

According to county
booking records, Gonzalez was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail at the
Whittier Police Department jail pending his initial court appearance.
