Fundraiser planned to help Covina twins struck by car

IRWINDALE -- A fundraiser at McDonald's this evening will raise money for twin 14-year-old Covina girls struck and seriously injured by a car as they walked to school earlier this week.
Gladstone High School students Leilani and Luana Fukui have remained hospitalized in critical condition since Monday's early-morning accident at Lark Ellen Avenue and Tudor Street, California Highway Patrol officials said.
In an effort to raise money to aid their family, McDonald's, 5203 N. Irwindale Ave., will donate 25 percent of proceeds to the Fukui family for sales made between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., family friend Crystal Carscadden said.
The fundraiser was initially scheduled to help the Gladiator Alliance and Color Guard, but was changed to help the family following the tragic accident.
The investigation remains ongoing, however the driver was not initially suspected of a crime.
