Two suspected of burglary in West Covina

WEST COVINA — Police, with the help of a K-9, arrested a young man and teenage girl on suspicion of breaking into two West Covina houses, officials said.
Christopher Alvarez, 18, of West Covina, and a teenage girl from La Puente, whose name was not released, were booked on suspicion of burglary, West Covina police Lt. Ron Mitchell said.
Neighbors called police about 9:50 a.m. to report a break-in at a home in the 2600 block of Evelyn Avenue, Mitchell said.
“When the units arrived, they were spotted running from the location,” the lieutenant said. The suspects broke into a second house in an attempt to flee from police, he added.
When the young man and woman refused to come out of the home, a police dog was sent in, biting the man on the arm, Mitchell said. He was treated for the dog bite before being booked into jail.
Mitchell added that items taken from the first home were found in the suspects’ possession.
