UPDATED: Teen wounded in stabbing near Whittier

WHITTIER — Deputies checking out a call about a stabbing found a wounded 15-year-old boy Friday night.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Mendoza said a caller reported the stabbing just before 10 p.m. at Hornell Street and La Mirada Boulevard in an unincorporated area near Whittier.
The victim was walking with friends when another young man approached him from behind, punched him and stabbed him in the thigh, Sgt. Glenn Emery said.
The wounded teen was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The attacker, described only as Latino, was seen getting into a white Chevrolet pickup truck with an extended cab, officials said. Other suspects were also in the truck.
Mendoza said the vehicle was last seen heading north on La Mirada Boulevard.
The motive in the attack was unclear.
