PASADENA — A worker appears to be fine after being attacked by a swarm of bees Saturday, officials said.
The man, estimated to be about 50, was working shortly before 11 a.m. at a private property in the 500 block of North Wilson Avenue when he disturbed a hive of bees that had taken up residency in a hollow tree, Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.
The bees swarmed the man, who received “a few” stings but declined to be taken to a hospital, Derderian said. Paramedics treated the man at the scene and stood by for a brief time to make sure the man was not displaying signs of a reaction to the bee stings.
The street was shut down for several hours Saturday afternoon as a beekeeper removed the hive from the property, Derderian said.
Officials did not initially believe the involved insects were of Africanized or “killer” bees, she said.
