Whittier parolee jailed after car chase from Montebello to Boyle Heights

Police Friday identified a 27-Whittier man jailed following a high-speed pursuit in a stolen car that went from Montebello to Boyle Heights.
Andres Martinez was booked on suspicion of auto theft and violating his parole, Montebello police Lt. Mike Flores said.
Martinez, along with a second man who escaped capture, took a Honda Accord from the 500 block of South 5th Steet in Montebello shortly before 10 p.m., police said.
Montebello police quickly found the car driving in their city, and a pursuit began, Lt. Ron Santo said.
The car reached speeds in excess of 90 mph as it darted down freeways and surface streets, ultimately coming to a stop at Soto and 1st streets in Boyle Heights, Santo said. Two men ran from the car.
Montebello and Los Angeles police searched the area and took Martinez into custody. The second man who fled from the car was not found.
According to county booking records, Martinez was being held without bail pending his scheduled arraignment Wednesday in East Los Angeles Superior Court.
