Whittier man killed in motorcycle crash identified

Authorities have released the name of a 34-year-old Whittier man killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon.
Jason Durant died at the scene of the collision, which took place about 4:15 p.m. on Meyer Road at Beaty Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol and coroner’s officials. CHP officials initially reported in error that Durant was 24 years old.
Durant was riding his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Meyer Road when the crash occurred, CHP officials said in a written statement. A 31-year-old La Habra man made was westbound on Meyer Road in his Daewoo sedan, preparing to make a left turn onto southbound Beaty Avenue.
“For an unknown reason, (the Daewoo driver) turned left directly into the path of Durant’s motorcycle,” according to the statement. “Durant struck the right side of (the Daewoo) and was ejected from his motorcycle.”
The driver of the Daewoo was not arrested, and the crash remained under investigation by the Santa Fe Springs office of the CHP.
