Woman arrested in connection with stabbing in West Covina released without charge

WEST COVINA — A woman arrested earlier this week on suspicion of stabbing her daughter’s boyfriend has been released without charges, officials said Wednesday.
Christine Rodriguez, 40, was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with Saturday’s 6:10 p.m. incident in the 2800 block of East Valley Boulevard.
Police said she stabbed her daughter’s boyfriend, a 24-year-old man, during a domestic dispute between the boyfriend and girlfriend.
Police ultimately sought a charge of assault with a deadly weapon against Rodriguez Tuesday, however prosecutors declined to file the case, according to West Covina police and Los Angeles County District Attorney’s officials.
Both the suspect and victim maintained that the stabbing was “an accident,” West Covina police Lt. Richard Bell said, adding that the wounded man did not want charges pressed against the woman.
According to county booking records, Rodriguez was released from jail Tuesday afternoon.
