Woman struck by big rig in Industry hit-and-run

INDUSTRY — Officials are seeking a big rig driver who struck and dragged a 50-year-old woman before fleeing the scene Tuesday.
Bartola Sarabia of South El Monte suffered major injuries in the hit-and-run, which took place about 6:30 a.m. at Valley Boulevard and Temple Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Kerri Rivas said.
A tractor trailer with “no visible markings” had just exited the northbound 605 Freeway at Valley Boulevard and was heading east prior to the crash, the officer said. Sarabia was crossing the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Temple Avenue, “in a marked crosswalk, with a green light.”
“The driver failed to yield to the pedestrian and the rear of the trailer struck Ms. Sarabia,” Rivas said. “The trailer then pushed and dragged Ms. Sarabia approximately 20 feet.”
The big rig continued east on Valley Boulevard.
Sarabia was hospitalized with major injuries, officials said.
Her condition at the hospital was unavailable, however, “Ms. Sarabia was conscious and able to make a limited statement to the investigating officer,” Rivas said.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the Baldwin Park Office of the CHP at 626-338-1164, or after-hours, the Los Angeles Communications Center can be reached at 323-982-4900.
