Police officer, two civilians injured in crash during high-speed chase in Montebello

MONTEBELLO — A police officer and two civilians were hospitalized late Friday after a police car and another vehicle collided while the officer was chasing a speeding motorcycle, officials said.
The officer spotted a white, street-style motorcycle with two riders speeding at approximately 80 mph around 9:40 p.m. on southbound Greenwood Avenue at Frankel Avenue, Montebello police Lt. Luis Lopez said.
The motorcycle did not pull over when the officer activated the patrol car’s emergency lights and sirens, and a pursuit began, the lieutenant said.
A civilian car failed to yield to the pursuing officer’s lights and siren just under a mile away at Greenwood Avenue and Sycamore Street, Lopez said. The officer swerved to avoid a collision, but ultimately lost control and crashed into the car and the center divider.
The officer and two civilians were hospitalized with injuries that were not initially believed to be life threatening, he said.
The motorcycle continued south and was not found.
Anyone with information was asked to call Montebello police at 323-887-1313.
