Task force seizes $320,000 in suspected stolen plastic

LOS ANGELES — A task force based out of the Sheriff’s Industry Station arrested for men an seized more than $300,000 worth of suspected stolen plastics early this week and arrested four.
The Sheriff’s Plastics Insutrial Theft Task Force was following up on a previous investigation Monday when raided a business in the 8700 block of Crocker Street in Los Angeles, Industry sheriff’s Lt. Victor Sotelo said.
About $320,000 worth of ground plastic — believed to have been ground from plastic pallets stolen from area businesses — were confiscated during the raid, Sotelo said, as well as about $110,000 worth of equipment used in the illicit operation.
The names of the four suspects were not released due to an ongoing investigation, Sotelo said.
The task force was started last year by officials at the sheriff’s Industry Station in response to a growing trend of plastic goods being stolen from business for the value of the recycled materials.
