Arcadia police and firefighters to square off in charity basketball game

ARCADIA — Police officers and firefighters will take each other on in a basketball game later this month to raise money for the Special Olympics.
The Arcadia Police Department and Arcadia Fire Department will host the the Second Annual Battle of the Badges 6 p.m. March 31 at the main gymnasium of Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive, organizer, Arcadia police detective and point guard Walter Ashby said.
Officials ask that guests make a donation of their choosing the Special Olympics Southern California for admission to the game.
The event will also feature a carnival-like family atmosphere, complete with police and fire department vehicles on display, jumpers for the kids, food vendors and free children’s fingerprinting.
Arcadia police are hoping to defeat their counterparts in the fire department to take possession of the “Heroes Cup” trophy, which firefighters won in last year’s came.
But at the same time, Ashby said, officials are also competing to raise money to benefit the Special Olympics. Last year’s event raised more than $3,500.
