Detectives continue to withhold name of teen fatally shot in La Mirada

LA MIRADA — Sheriff’s investigators Wednesday continued to withhold the name of a 16-year-old boy shot to death in front of his own home over the weekend.
The fatal shooting took place shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday in the 13200 block of Duffield Avenue, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.
The teenage victim was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center where he died, officials said.
Lt. Holly Francisco of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau refused to identify the dead boy Wednesday, saying it would damage the ongoing investigation.
It is the policy of Orange County coroner’s officials to defer to the investigating agency for identification of homicide victims.
In Los Angeles County, the names of homicide victims automatically become public record once family members have been notified.
No suspect information was available in the attack, which was believed to be gang-related, Francisco said.
The boy was shot while standing in his driveway and managed to run inside his home before collapsing, the lieutenant said.
Anyone with information is asked to call to the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tips may also be left anonymously by calling L.A. Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
