UPDATED: Man calls police to reports stabbing mother to death in Azusa

AZUSA — A man called police early Friday to report he had stabbed his mother to death, police said.
The 9-1-1 call came in about 9 a.m. from a home in the 300 block of E. Russel Street, Azusa police Cpl. Don Manley said.
Upon reporting he had just fatally stabbed his mother, the Azusa police dispatcher was able to keep the man, who was estimated to be in his late-20s, on the phone until officers arrived, the corporal said.
The dispatcher then convinced the man to exit the home with his hands up and surrender to police, he said.
Officers also discovered a dog at the home suffering from stab wounds, and it was taken into the custody of the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society, police said.
No further information was immediately available.
