Burglar flees with $40,000 worth of jewelry in Norwalk smash-and-grab

NORWALK — A burglar helped himself to about $40,000 worth of jewelry Friday after smashing open a display case inside a Costco, authorities said.
The crime took place about 10 a.m. at the store, 12324 Hoxie Ave., Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Bill Evans said.
A man used an object to smash open a glass display case and grabbed the jewelry, Evans said. Store officials were still checking inventory Friday afternoon, however the loss was initially estimated at about $40,000.
The thief, a black man between 28 and 35 years old, was last seen getting into a teal-colored Ford Escape and driving away, the lieutenant said.
Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff’s Norwalk Station.
