UPDATED: Tree trimmer killed in apparent accident in Glendora

GLENDORA — A tree trimmer working high up in a palm tree died Saturday in an apparent accident, authorities said.
The incident was first reported just before 4:50 p.m. in the 200 block of West Bennett Avenue, Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Robert Diaz said.
Glendora police Lt. Jaime Caldwell initially described the worker as a 35-year-old Glendora man.
Officials responded to a report of a worker stuck more than 30 feet up in the tree and yelling for help, the lieutenant said.
Firefighters made their way up to the man via a ladder and cut him free, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It initially appeared that fronds fell from the tree and lodged themselves between the man and his climbing gear, apparently crushing or suffocating him, according to police and fire officials.
The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, along with police and coroner’s officials, Caldwell said.
Further details were not available late Saturday.
