UPDATED: Bomb squad investigates report of grenade found near Arcadia

A sheriff’s bomb squad was summoned to a home in unincorporated county area near Arcadia after a woman found what looked like a grenade while cleaning out a shed, authorities said.
Bomb squad officials ultimately collected the device from the shed to “render it safe” at another location, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Murray Simpkins said. It was found to be inert, bomb squad officials said.
A resident of the 400 block of Jeffries Avenue was clearing a shed of items belonging to her father, who recently died, when she discovered the World War II-style grenade about 11:30 a.m., Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Murray Simpkins said.
Deputies responded and found the device looked suspicious enough to summon officials from the Sheriff’s Arson-Explosives Detail to investigate, the sergeant said.
The grenade had its pin and “spoon” still attached, he added.
Bomb squad officials determined the grenade was safe to transport, so they elected to take it with them to be inspected at a firing range, Simpkins said.
Officials sounded the all-clear about 12:30 p.m.
