UPDATE: Man shot to death in El Monte

EL MONTE – A 34-year-old man died following a shooting late Thursday, authorities said.
El Monte Police Lt. David Vautrin said that about 10 shots were heard in the 11500 block of Medina Court at 9:40 p.m.
A passerby saw a man lying on the street. Vautrin said the man sustained several gunshot wounds but was breathing and had a pulse.
“Detectives have learned that the male Hispanic victim was standing in the front of a residence when unknown suspect(s) shot the victim multiple times in the upper torso,” Deputy Benjamin Grubb of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Headquarter’s Bureau said in a written statement.
Vautrin said paramedics took the wounded man to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center where he died at 10:34 p.m.
His name was not released pending positive identification and notification of his family, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Lt. Larry Dietz said.
Police closed off the area and searched for the shooter or shooters, officials said. No suspects were in custody early Friday.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are assisting El Monte police in the investigation.
