UPDATED: Injury crash on 605 Freeway prompts closure, DUI suspected

BALDWIN PARK — Rescuers shut down both directions of the 605 Freeway at the 10 Freeway as they landed a helicopter in the roadway to rush an injured and allegedly drunken driver to the hospital following a solo-vehicle, rollover crash.
Jose Hermosillo, 34, of Pasadena suffered major injuries and was suspected of drunken driving following the 1 p.m. crash on the northbound 605, just north of the 10, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Licon said in a written statement.
Officials at 1:15 p.m. called for the brief closure of the 605 to accommodate a helicopter landing, as well as the westbound 10 Freeway connector road to the northbound 605, according to CHP logs.
The crash involved a lone pickup truck, which was carrying debris from a palm tree, officials said.
Hermosillo apparently tried to change lanes when he lost control of his 2003 Nissan Frontier, causing it to spin out of control and then overturn, Licon said.
Hermosillo suffered major injuries to his arm and head and was flown to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for treatment, the sergeant said.
The crash remained under investigation.
Any witnesses were asked to call the Baldwin Park office of the CHP at 626-338-1164, or after hours, the Los Angeles Communications Center can be reached at 323-982-4900.
