62-year-old bell stolen from Pico Rivera church

PICO RIVERA — Authorities are seeking metal thieves who made off with a brass bell that has adorned a Passons Boulevard church for decades, officials said Wednesday.
The 200-pound bell hung beneath the sign in front of St. Marianna de Paredes Catholic Church, 7922 S. Passons Blvd.
The bell is valued at about $5,000, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Robert Smith, but possesses sentimental value to the church as well.
“It’s 62 years old,” the lieutenant said.
The bell was stolen sometime between Thursday and Friday of last week, though the crime was not reported to sheriff’s officials until Tuesday, Smith said.
Smith asked anyone with information, and particularly any metal recycling businesses who may encounter someone trying to sell the bell, to contact the sheriff’s Pico Rivera Station at 562-949-2421.
